Phases

I
Night’s globe shines golden,
glowing cheery masquerade—
“It’s sun, Mommy! Sun!”

II
Little hand, holding
mine, lets go—“Mommy, look! Up
there! The moon’s folded.”

III
Starlight blanket wraps
children chasing fireflies—
moon blinks new silver.

IV
Hilltop children race
beneath promise of more snow—
misty moon halo

About the Poet
I am a single mom of three and work in health care. Writing poetry has been part of my life since I was very small. Japanese forms fit best with my life right now--I can compose and recompose them in my mind while driving to and from work.
