Good Things
Thursday, June 12, 2014GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS HOLY WORD:
2 I will bow down toward your holy temple (O Lord) and will praise your name for your love and your faithfulness, for you have exalted above all things your Name and your Word. - Psalm 138:2(New International Version).
A PROMISE FROM GOD'S HOLY WORD:
9 You care for the land and water it; you enrich it abundantly. The streams of God are filled with water to provide the people with grain, for so You have ordained it. 10 You drench its furrows and level its ridges; You soften it with showers and bless its crops. 11 You crown the year with your bounty, and your carts overflow with abundance. 12 The grasslands of the desert overflow; the hills are clothed with gladness. 13 The meadows are covered with flocks and the valleys are mantled with grain; they shout for joy and sing. - Psalm 65:9-13 (New International Version).
A QUOTE:
The happiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts. - Marcus Antonius -
THOUGHTS TO REMEMBER:
Don't rush yourself or your dream. If you do everything today, what will you do tomorrow? - From Go For It -
God's strength is best seen in our weakness. - From Our Daily Bread -
The Lord has a purpose for you to fulfill...power to equip you...and strength to uphold you. - From Prayers and Blessings -
You can't spell "brothers" without at the same time, spelling "others." - From Reminisce Magazine -
NOTES:
Today has been partly cloudy with rain this morning before and after daylight but stopping by around 9:00 a.m. I had three tenths of an inch of rain at my house. High temperature today was 85 degrees. I had lunch today with Charley, Bill and our nephew, Denton. Michelle was our waitress today. I saw good friends, Stan, Sue and Pam at Taco Bobs. I went to the post office and then stopped by the CVS store for a couple of items. At 1:30 p.m. I went to the Dental Clinic for more impressions to be made for my new upper dental plate. I still have my bottom teeth and they are going to have to work a little on them also. I took a nap without a cat but Emmy was on a shelf nearby. I put treats outside for the cats a little after 6:00 p.m. and sat with them for about 30 minutes. I thought about letting the Good Things rest tonight, but then I thought that I don't know how much longer that I will be able to do the Good Things so I had better do them while I am able. Thanks for your emails and thanks for reading the Good Things.
My cats are fine. Leo and Tony, my two orange and white colored cats are on the desk near me. Leo is a long hair and Tony is a short hair. The hair on long haired cats grows so fast in the summer that I sometimes have to trim it a little. I had to trim a couple of lumps of long hair from Leo this evening. All the cats are present and accounted for tonight. Tony is quite a talker and he just meowed that he wanted out, so I let him out and Leo went with him.
Have a nice Friday. Everett

Good Things
Wednesday, June 11, 2014GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS HOLY WORD:
(Jesus said) 20 "You know the commandments: 'Do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not give false testimony, honor your father and mother.'" - Luke 18:20(New International Version).
GOD'S PROMISE TO US FROM HIS HOLY WORD:
1 My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, 2 turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, 3 and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, 4 and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, 5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. - Proverbs 2:1-5(New International Version).
A QUOTE:
Whether you think you can or think you can't, you're right. - Henry Ford -
THOUGHTS TO REMEMBER:
If we fear and love God, we will obey Him. - From Our Daily Bread -
The world is like a mirror, you see? Smile, and your friends smile back. - Zen Proverb -
You'll do more things that count if you don't stop to count them. - From Reminisce Magazine -
NOTES:
Today has been mostly sunny with a high temperature of 88 degrees. I attended Memorial Services at 11:00 a.m. for Jim Rose, a good friend and former boss. He was 80 years of age. I saw some friends that I had worked with at H&R Block. Jim was my boss for 16 years. I have been retired from H&R Block for 16 years. I had lunch with Charley. I went to the post office and then to Walgreen's to pick up a prescription. I took my nap this afternoon with Smokey. I put treats out for the cats around 6:10 p.m. and sat with them for about 45 minutes. Thanks for your emails and thanks for reading the Good Things. Let me know if you would like to be dropped. They are going into 56 different homes at this time.
The cats are fine. Tony came to the back this evening as I was sitting out. He usually does not come to the back with the rest of the cats. I have seen all of my cats this evening. Why do I tell you that every night? Because some people who read the Good Things want to know if all of my cats are fine.
Have a nice Thursday. Everett

Tuesday, June 10, 2014GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS HOLY WORD:
20 We know also that the Son of God (Jesus) has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know Him who is true. And we are in Him who is true - even in His Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. - 1 John 5:20(New International Version).
GOD'S PROMISE TO US FROM HIS HOLY WORD:
(Jesus said) 10 "Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you." - Matthew 5:10-12(New International Version).

9 Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the laps of fools. - Ecclesiastes 7:9(New International Version).
GOD'S PROMISE TO US FROM HIS HOLY WORD:

When your reputation breaks down, there is no place to go for spare parts. - From Reminisce Magazine -
NOTES:
We had more rain this morning before and after daylight. It stopped before I went out for lunch. I had an inch and a quarter of rain at my house last night and this morning. The rest of the day has been partly cloudy. I had lunch today with Charley and our nephew, Denton. Taylor was our waitress today. I went to the post office and picked up my mail. I took a nap when I got home from lunch. Emmy was with me part of the time. When I got up from my nap I took a pain pill for my back which I do every afternoon. Some way or other I could not get comfortable sitting here in the den in my recliner chair so I lay down again for a while and felt better after that. I have had some bad news lately. Jim Rose, who was my boss for 16 years during the tax season after I retired died Saturday. I am not sure of his age but he is younger than me. This evening after I got up a second time, Ruby, my niece-in-law, who lives in Mesa, Arizona, called me. Her husband, Fred, who was my nephew, died about a year ago. This morning Ruby lost her sister who was just older than her. I tried my best to comfort and encourage Ruby. She says she loves the Good Things and they help her so much so that is just one more reason for me to keep doing them as long as the Lord lets me. Later in the evening, I got a note from Dianne, my pastor's wife. Barbara Shirley, one of our church members, had surgery today in Tulsa. I will leave Dianne's note at the end of the Good Things. With all the bad news this song keeps coming to my mind "Where Could I Go But To The Lord?"
My good news is that my cats are all fine. Rascal is stretched out on the desk beside me, cat napping. Smokey, Lucy, Tony, and Emmy have all been through the den since I started the Good Things. Leo was here a little earlier. I have seen all of them this evening.
Have a nice Tuesday. Everett.
Here is Dianne's letter:
Good Evening Church Family-
> > Pastor JT has just called and Barbara is out of surgery and is in ICU. She will remain sedated thru the night. Unfortunately, the news is not good. We want to wait for the pathology report to confirm results ( should be in by the end of the week) before we share any details. Please pray for her and her family- They are taking the news hard. Pray for Barbara - as the family will need to tell her in the next couple of days. > We will keep you updated as we get the final report and have the freedom to share with you
> > Thanks for your prayers >

Good Things
Sunday, June 8, 2014GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS HOLY WORD:
17 May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us - yes, establish the work of our hands. - Psalm 90:17(New International Version).
GOD'S PROMISE TO US FROM HIS HOLY WORD:
13 Eat honey, my son, for it is good; honey from the comb is sweet to your taste. 14 Know also that wisdom is sweet to your soul; if you find it, there is a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off. - Proverbs 24:13-14(New International Version).
A QUOTE:
I breathed a song into the air; it fell to earth, I know not where.... and the song, from beginning to end, I found again in the heart of a friend. - Longfellow -
THOUGHTS TO REMEMBER A great person is someone who has not lost the heart of a child. - From Reminisce Magazine - Believing Christ died - that's history; believing Christ died for me - that's salvation. - From Our Daily Bread - Nobody else's footsteps lead exactly where you're going. - From Go For It -
NOTES:
We had lots of rain starting around 1:00 a.m. last night and continuing until around 10:00 a.m. this morning. I got up around 7:30 a.m., made my breakfast (microwave), took my first pain pill of the day and watched the news on television. It continued to rain and I kept wondering if I should go to Worship Services. I called my daughter, Treva, between 8:30 and 9:00 as I do every day and I asked her what she thought about me going to church. She left it up to me. I had just about decided to go back to bed so I took the rest of my pills that I take every day for high blood pressure, etc. It was then that I decided that I should go ahead, get ready and go to church. About an hour later when I got in my van the rain had stopped. I am so glad that I decided to do the right thing and go on to church. We haven't had any more rain today but it is supposed to come again by morning. We had a good Worship Service with choruses, hymns, spiritual songs and testimonies. Pastor JT's sermon was titled "Transformational Living: From Believing to Becoming." I am so glad that I attended church this morning. I had lunch at home. I took my afternoon nap. Beau was my nap partner this afternoon. I awakened around 3:00 p.m. and at first I thought it must be Monday and I hadn't put the garbage out front last night and would have to wait another week. Then I realized it was still Sunday. Does that ever happen to you? If not it will one of these days. I put food and treats outside for the cats around 6:35 p.m. and sat with them for a few minutes. I put the garbage out on the street after 7:00 p.m. Thanks for reading the Good Things and thanks for your emails.
The cats are fine. Smokey is fine and is lying on a desk near me at present and so is Rascal. Last night just before midnight it was thundering a little to the north of McAlester so my cats all came in except Lucy, the former stray. I went to bed around midnight and left the cats in for I had looked at radar on the Internet and saw that storms were headed our way and would be here before long. I went to sleep and around 1:00 a.m. the storm arrived with lightning, rain and thunder. Five of my cats got on the bed with me thinking that I could protect them from the storm. They were Rascal snuggling close as usual, Beau, Emmy, Friendly and Leo. Smokey was under a sofa somewhere because he hides out when it thunders. Tony was lying in the floor somewhere, thunder doesn't bother him. Itty Bitty was also hiding out somewhere because sometimes the loud thunder bothers her. Lucy never came in so she was at her other living quarters wherever that is. She came in this morning before I went to church. That is my cat story for today and when you get tired of all this tell me so and I will drop you from the Good Things.
Have a nice Monday to start the week. Everett
