Good Things

Monday, June 9, 2014

GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS HOLY WORD:

9 Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the laps of fools. - Ecclesiastes 7:9(New International Version).

GOD'S PROMISE TO US FROM HIS HOLY WORD:

14 Counsel and sound judgment are mine (Wisdom); I have understanding and power. - Proverbs 8:14(New International Version)>

A QUOTE:

It ain't over 'til it's over. - Yogi Berra -

THOUGHTS TO REMEMBER:

A contented person has learned to accept the bitter with the sweet. - From Our Daily Bread -

Cherish your yesterdays, dream your tomorrows, but live your todays. Tomorrow belongs to those who fully use today. - From Go For It -

When your reputation breaks down, there is no place to go for spare parts. - From Reminisce Magazine -

NOTES:

We had more rain this morning before and after daylight. It stopped before I went out for lunch. I had an inch and a quarter of rain at my house last night and this morning. The rest of the day has been partly cloudy. I had lunch today with Charley and our nephew, Denton. Taylor was our waitress today. I went to the post office and picked up my mail. I took a nap when I got home from lunch. Emmy was with me part of the time. When I got up from my nap I took a pain pill for my back which I do every afternoon. Some way or other I could not get comfortable sitting here in the den in my recliner chair so I lay down again for a while and felt better after that. I have had some bad news lately. Jim Rose, who was my boss for 16 years during the tax season after I retired died Saturday. I am not sure of his age but he is younger than me. This evening after I got up a second time, Ruby, my niece-in-law, who lives in Mesa, Arizona, called me. Her husband, Fred, who was my nephew, died about a year ago. This morning Ruby lost her sister who was just older than her. I tried my best to comfort and encourage Ruby. She says she loves the Good Things and they help her so much so that is just one more reason for me to keep doing them as long as the Lord lets me. Later in the evening, I got a note from Dianne, my pastor's wife. Barbara Shirley, one of our church members, had surgery today in Tulsa. I will leave Dianne's note at the end of the Good Things. With all the bad news this song keeps coming to my mind "Where Could I Go But To The Lord?"

My good news is that my cats are all fine. Rascal is stretched out on the desk beside me, cat napping. Smokey, Lucy, Tony, and Emmy have all been through the den since I started the Good Things. Leo was here a little earlier. I have seen all of them this evening.

Have a nice Tuesday. Everett.

Here is Dianne's letter:

Good Evening Church Family-

> > Pastor JT has just called and Barbara is out of surgery and is in ICU. She will remain sedated thru the night. Unfortunately, the news is not good. We want to wait for the pathology report to confirm results ( should be in by the end of the week) before we share any details. Please pray for her and her family- They are taking the news hard. Pray for Barbara - as the family will need to tell her in the next couple of days. > We will keep you updated as we get the final report and have the freedom to share with you

> > Thanks for your prayers >
