An Old Brown Leather Couch

An Old Brown Leather Couch

Nobody’s home

They’ve all gone someplace

the Philippines

Bakersfield

Fresno

work

Even Tobi and Spencer are gone

no salt and pepper dogs

clamoring for attention

I finish my last load of laundry

then listen to the dryer spinning

I’m having my

books

cerebral reflections

journal

a momentary hummingbird visitor

the cell phone that hasn’t rung

since 11:30 this morning

I’m in the midst of a cool, green space

in this back yard

a yard full of assorted plants keeps me company

wind ruffles the young avocado tree

in front of the concrete block wall

the palm trees are silhouetted

against a cloud-free Hollywood sky

I am not alone

I’ve escaped the confines of my apartment

I’m in a peaceful solitude

The drowsiness of relaxation

stops time stop as I sit

on an old brown leather couch

About the Poet
Michelle Angelini, aka Chelle, has been writing poetry for over 40 years. She has been published in many Southern California chapbooks and calendars. I am retired and dealing with my health issues. My Saviour, Jesus is always with me. God holds me within His wings. I am working slowly on a second book poetry and possibly my photography. And, I'm over 65 now and still loving it, even though my social life is not what it once was because of the painful fibromyalgia. It's quite frustrating, but I know Jesus still has "work" for me to do to show how much He blesses me.
