Ode to AJ8

Eyes
Staring back at me
From a yellowed photograph-
What stories told!
What ventures, bold!
What dreams behold?

Clothes
From a by-gone era;
All dressed up in fashionable mode,
The dignity of it's wearer
Gallantly showed.

If I could have but lived in your time,
Or you, in mine, I wonder-
What would I think of you
And you, of me?
None-the-less, I salute you now,
With awe and admiration, for your
Courageous spirit
And honor my ancestry,
With pride!

*note:
I wrote this about my adventurous great-grandfather who immigrated to the U.S. before the Civil War and died before
I was born. AJ stands for his first and middle name, Antonio Joaquim, and 8 stands for his number on my ancestral chart.
