Sasha

My furry companion lays on the kitchen table
For now she is not begging me for food,
but maybe in a while she’ll come over, tap on my arm,
and meow in her scratchy voice, that I’ve come
to love telling me, “Feed me Slave!”

Her name is Sasha and although she’s not
a very cuddly or affectionate cat like my others
she has a quality that makes me
love her more each day.

She’s over eleven years old – a miracle
in my mind and heart, since most
of my other cats, who have crossed
the Rainbow Bridge – did not live that long.

Sometimes when Sasha’s in the mood
she comes when I call her. She sleeps
on the bed with me, but only after I’m in dreamland.
I am grateful for that and sometimes
in the morning, I awaken to find her slumbering
on my pillow, wrapped warmly around my head.

Sasha was a young kitten when I adopted her.
We have grown together through the years
to understand and communicate
in our own unique way.

To say I love her is definitely an understatement.

About the Poet
Michelle Angelini, aka Chelle, has been writing poetry for over 40 years. She has been published in many Southern California chapbooks and calendars. I am retired and dealing with my health issues. My Saviour, Jesus is always with me. God holds me within His wings. I am working slowly on a second book poetry and possibly my photography. And, I'm over 65 now and still loving it, even though my social life is not what it once was because of the painful fibromyalgia. It's quite frustrating, but I know Jesus still has "work" for me to do to show how much He blesses me.
