THE FLOOD, THE FLOOD, THE FLOOD!

In memory of the flood of 2015, Columbia, SC… (my hometown)

We needed Noah’s ark it seemed - the waters covered streets, homes, and deluged our city

His name was Joachim, he was no gentleman - no respecter of persons, rich and poor he devastated

No bridges to carry us over - no familiar store to come to any more - it didn’t rain 40 days and 40 nights

But the rains came in torrents frightening those who heard its roar that night

In the aftermath, boats, cars, and homes were swept away - boats and helicopters came to

Rescue the people who would have perished - even though some did

The flood, the flood, the flood we will never forget - the outpouring of love and help from our neighbors and friends - a friend in need is a friend indeed - oh, the stories we will have to tell

Could this be a cleansing flood for the complacent?  God’s Hand moved us out of our comfort zone

It could have been so much worse - the prayers of the righteous avails much - God carried us through the storm

Our beautiful city and state will rise up again - standing tall in the face of what had been - never

Forgetting the lessons learned - keep the faith - knowing that in this God is in total control - He brings

Goodness out of tragedies and storms - we are survivors because

He is the One who calmed the storm and said “peace be stlll” and it was so…….

Words and music: Oscar C. Eliason

Got Any Rivers

Chorus

Got any rivers you think are uncrossable?

Got any mountains you can’t tunnel through?

God specializes in things impossible

And does the things that others cannot do

About the Poet
I was born in Lexington County, SC. I lived in Jacksonville, Florida for many years.I recently moved back home to my home town, Columbia, SC. I have one daughter, Kimberly. I now have two brothers. One went to be with the Lord in January, 2010. My Mom went to be with the Lord, Memorial Day May 28, 2012. Among the things I am grateful for and remembering about her is my salvation. She was a strong passionate woman of God all of her life and a beautiful loving Mother. I was saved and baptized in the ocean in Rota, Spain. What an experience that was! Holy Spirit chased me and drew me to Himself, while I was alone in another country. I surrendered to the Lord, and His peace flooded my soul. It was so beautiful. I am so happy he saved me and redeemed me. I am so happy to share these poems from His heart and mine. Poetry is a release and has inspired and encouraged me and many who have read my poetry. I was blessed to write for a number of years on Crossway Publications and had over 300 poems that I wrote on the site. God has increased my gift with more beautiful poetry. In 2005 my poetic writings seemed to catch the fire of God and have a deeper meaning. I thank God for this chance to share my poetry with all. God Bless...
