Thoughts for our times
From: Geneva Poynter (WC Poet) July 4, 2012The man who writes these is now 93 years old and feels he must quit writing. I wonder why? I think he is amazing. He probably has some people helping him, but still, he is amazing. Billy Graham once called him the architect of wold evangelism. He traveled very widely.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - In what may be the last issue of ANC, some great thoughts for the week:
"It is not our job to protect the people from the consequences of their political choices. Chief Justice John Roberts, U.S. Supreme Court, 2012
````````````````````````````` "The greatest calamity which could befall us would be
submission to a government of unlimited powers." "We must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt.
Taxation follows that, and in its train, wretchedness and oppression."
"Excessive taxation ... will carry reason and reflection
to every man's door, and particularly in the hour of election."
n Thomas Jefferson, Founding Father and 3rd U.S. President, 1801-1809
``````````````````````````` But first, let us be reminded of the words of John Adams concerning the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 2, 1776, to take effect two days later on July 4:
"The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward, forever more." In support of that Declaration, those men pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor. Our leaders of today don't make statements like that.

GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS HOLY WORD
15 The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their cry. 16 The face of the Lord is against those who do evil, To cut off the remembrance of them from the earth. - Psalm 34:15-16(New King James Version).
GOD'S PROMISE TO US FROM HIS HOLY WORD
14 By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also. - 1 Corinthians 6:14(New International Version).

NOTES
Today has been a sunny day with a high temperature of 98 degrees and a low temperature of 77 degrees. I had lunch with Charley and Bill. I went to the post office. I took my afternoon nap. At 5:00 p.m. I went out and picked up my half priced hamburger. At 6:15 p.m. I put fresh water and treats out for the cats. Tomorrow is the 236th birthday of our country. Sheriff Andy Taylor (Andy Griffith) of Mayberry, USA died today at age 86. That is the same age as me. I will celebrate the 4th of July with just me and my cats as I have a lot of holidays the past 4 years. I really don't feel like celebrating anyway. Taco Bob's will be closed so I will find another place for lunch. Charley and some of his church friends are going to play dominoes. I can hear fireworks going off tonight. I will send pictures. Thanks for your nice e-mails.
The cats are fine except Emmy has not come home. Little Girl was outside most of the day but I found her in the back yard late this evening and brought her inside for some food. She is outside again tonight but has been coming in pretty often for another bite of food. Rascal is asleep on a desk near me.
I hope everyone has a Happy, Safe, 4th Of July! I will see you next time,
In Christian Love, Everett.

Ticks (insect)
From Dale Heath: hmmm, we can only hope it works....have to try it next time....djhNortherners - Free Information from down South.
A nurse discovered a safe, easy way to remove ticks where they automatically withdraw themselves when you follow her simple instructions. Read this one as it could save you from some major problems.
Tick Removal: Spring is here and the ticks will soon be showing their heads.
Here is a good way to get them off you, your children, or your pets. Give it a try. Please forward to anyone with children, hunters or dogs; or anyone who even steps outside in summer!
A School Nurse has written the info below--good enough to share--and it really works!
"I had a pediatrician tell me what she believes is the best way to remove a tick. This is great because it works in those places where it's sometimes difficult to get to with tweezers: between toes, in the middle of a head full of dark hair, etc."
"Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball. Cover the tick with the soap-soaked cotton ball and swab it for a few seconds (15-20); the tick will come out on its own and be stuck to the cotton ball when you lift it away. { I'm not sure what swab means -- to blot or to rub ??? }
This technique has worked every time I've used it (and that was frequently), and it's much less traumatic for the patient and easier for me..."
"Unless someone is allergic to soap, I can't see that this would be damaging in any way. I even had my doctor's wife call me for advice because she had one stuck to her back and she couldn't reach it with tweezers. She used this method and immediately called me back to say, "It worked!"
Please pass on. Everyone needs this helpful hint.

GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS HOLY WORD
(The Lord said) 3 "For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants." - Isaiah 44:3(New International Version).
A PROMISE FROM GOD'S HOLY WORD
(Jesus said) 24 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life. 25 Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live." - John 5:24-25(New King James Version).

NOTES
Today has been partly cloudy with a high temperature of 95 degrees and a low temperature of 72 degrees. I had lunch with Charley and Bill and came by the post office to pick up my mail. My neighbor mowed my front lawn around 1:00 p.m. I took my afternoon nap without a cat napping with me. At around 4:00 p.m. I went to the newspaper office (McAlester News-Capital) to pay my subscription bill. While there I visited with my friend, Pat, who is office manager and also receives the Good Things. She attended school with my daughter, June, but that has been a few years back. Then I went by Country Mart for a few items and used a couple of coupons which they doubled. I put fresh water and treats outside for the cats about 6:15 p.m. Have I told you lately that I love to get e-mails? Well, I am telling you now and that includes you and you and you. I will send more pictures tonight.
The cats are fine except Emmy has not come home yet. Rascal is lying on a desk close by me with a little bowl of dry cat food that he nibbles at once in a while. Right now he is trying to sleep but wakes up to be petted occasionally. The other cats are elsewhere at present.
I will see you next time,
In Christian Love,
Everett.

GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS HOLY WORD
1 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, 3 though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. - Psalm 46:1-3(New International Version).
GOD'S PROMISE TO US FROM HIS HOLY WORD
37 Consider the blameless, observe the upright; there is a future for the man of peace. 38 But all sinners will be destroyed; the future of the wicked will be cut off. - Psalm 37:37-38(New International Version).

NOTES
Today has been a sunny day and not as hot as yesterday. High temperature today was 93 degrees with a low temperature of 73 degrees. I attended Worship Services this morning. We had another wonderful service. I had lunch at home. I took my nap this afternoon with Smokey on a night stand near my bed. I talked with my daughter, Treva, around 3:00 p.m. who is in Ithaca, New York. She will be traveling with her son and his wife and baby, Ella, for the next 3 days as her son moves his family to Olathe, Kansas. I watched the Lawrence Welk program at 5:00 p.m. which was taped in 1968. I did not attend church services tonight. I put fresh water and treats outside for the cats at 6:10 p.m. and sat out with them for a few minutes since it was not quite as hot as it has been. I then got the garbage ready and out on the street for pick up in the morning. I appreciate your e-mails. I will send pictures. We have a prayer request today.
Here is a prayer request from Mary Jo Holt of Roseburg, Oregon: "I have a request, a dear friend of ours has cancer, she had surgery for breast cancer and was doing well, now they think it has spread to her adrenal glands, bones and stomach. Please ask your friends to say a prayer for her. She is a very special lady, she is a special education teacher and good friend of Claudia's also. Thank you."
The cats are fine except for Emmy who has been gone two or three days. She has done this before so I am hoping and praying that she will return. Rascal is asleep on the desk near me. Little Girl was in a little while ago.
I will see you next time,
In Christian Love, Everett.
