West after Sunset

There far away the last meeting place of a day with a sun.
There far away gentle stories lie in wait
to be interred in the darkness
to be silenced in a dark meaningless night
where arms and lips will speak louder
as  passions scream

There among the grey russet aftermath
of stony hills
songs are stilled and dreams begin
not of what a day will bring
but of what each night must take.

There far away
the soul travels ahead to seek an answer
but soon returns to a familiar body
like a child to its mother
to ask more questions.
