Time

The clock stares my face.
Time!- that  prodigal scion of days.
That lazy loiterer,
That hapless  hastener,
That careless spendthrift
Of nano seconds and centuries;
That prime destroyer
 Of itself.

It watched in startled still when
I wept at my own birth
While the world around me smiled with glee
And my new world heaved.

It stood  still then morphed
When a lover first neared
When my heart first feared.

Its paths tensed my tenses
Then self erased
The fine lines between them
And left me
Purer than a prayer.

And I  never  got to see
what had hovered on those hazy roads
For  angels had smiled
While demons strove and failed
To tangle my fates  into patterns
 Unknown.

Within such time did I open my doors
To the One who knocked and stayed;
Who now offers me more Time;
And will never need to knock again
