A Prayer to God about Lucky

By Everett Christian

The wolf and the lamb will feed together - Isaiah 65:25a(NIV).

This is a prayer poem about a wonderful cat named Lucky that I accidently ran over and killed on March 6, 2005

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

My Heavenly Father, I come to You in the name of Jesus, My Savior,
and in the fellowship of Your Blessed Holy Spirit.

Father, You know what happened on March 6, 2005.
I ran over our beautiful cat, Lucky.

We rescued Lucky from the middle of a busy street on August 19, 2001 when he was just a little kitten.
We brought him home and within a day he had accepted our family and we had accepted him

Father, You know that once an animal is accepted into our home,
with love and devotion only death can tear us apart

Father, You know how Lucky became a part of our household.
Even though, sometimes, he was a little rough with his playing he always showed his love for us.

Even as he grew to be a big cat he would stretch out in my wife's lap,
just like he did when he was a little kitten.

Father, since You know everything that happens on this earth,
You saw our Precious Lucky on that sad day in March.

Lucky was sitting on the window ledge outside our home.
I had been to Wal-Mart on that Sunday afternoon.
Even though I have always felt a little guilt when I purchase things on the Lord's Day.
Your Word says for us to "Remember the Sabbath Day and keep it Holy."

Since Sunday is my Sabbath, maybe I should not have been buying on a Sunday.

Father, You know that as Lucky saw my van coming down the street,
he, as usual ran to meet me with his tail high in the air indicating love and acceptance.
I slowly pulled in the driveway as I had done many times before.
I thought that Lucky would walk in front of the van as he had always done before.

Suddenly it felt as if my van had hit something.
I immediately stopped the van and jumped out to see what had happened.

Father, You know that what I saw will live with me as long as I am in my right mind.
There was our Precious Lucky lying still under the van.
His beautiful body was limp as I lifted him to my arms.
I can't remember ever having this much agony before.

Father, You know that I started to carry him through our home,
but blood was dripping from his Precious body.
I carried him to the back yard and laid him on a chaise.
My wife heard me and came to the back.
In a few minutes, Lucky, breathed his last breath.

We placed his beautiful body in a cardboard box.
I buried him in the back yard beside Callie, Fluffy, Gracie and Yoda.

Father, I think Lucky is in Heaven with You,
as well as all our other pets that have died.
I know You can commicate with animals,
so will You please tell Lucky some things for me?

Tell him that I loved him as much as a human can love.
Tell him that I am very sorry that I ran over him.
Tell him that I don't know why he stopped in front of the wheels of the van.
Tell him that no amount of money could have taken him from us.

Father, also tell him that I will be along as soon as you are through with me on this earth.
Then I will see him along with my Dear Wife, Dad, Mother, Brothers, Sisters, Relatives and Friends.

I will also join the other cats that we have lost.
Some of their names are Yoda, Fluffy, Callie, Prissy, Gracie, Rabbit, Snobby, Napoleon, Nikki, Gold Boy, Freckles, Harriet, Happy, Mocking, Baby Cat, Safki and all the others that I have forgotten or they didn't have names.

Also tell our dogs named Dooby, Candy, Laddie, Bruno, Uno, Collie and the others that I will see them also.
Then we can romp and play in that Beautiful Land where no one ever dies or grows old.

I Praise You Father, I Praise You Jesus and I Praise You, Blessed Holy Spirit.

AMEN

About the Poet
I am 86 years of age. My dear wife, Flonnie, whom I had been married to for 61 years and 9 months passed from this earth on February 24, 2008. Needless to say I have been lonely and sometimes in tears since that time. I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior in September, 1953, and have tried my best to live as Jesus would have me live since that time. I don't know much about poetry but I try to express my feelings in the poems that I write. My wife loved cats just as I do and at this time I have 8 cats and I feed 1 stray cat. I don't know how I would have made it without my cats since Flonnie's passing.
