White Winged Dove
Viewed Last 24 Hours: 1 time

By Lanette Kissel
Other Poems by Lanette Kissel

There once lived a beautiful Dove
with radiant wings of white,
a Dove who wanted to lead us
from the darkness into light.

The Dove taught us by His example
about faith and brotherly love,
and lived a life of total obedience
to His Father residing above.

But the authorities captured the Dove
and they clipped His wings.
They mocked and tortured Him
and did such terrible things.

His fettered wings were outstretched.
He was forbidden to fly,
Broken wings now nailed to a cross,
He was condemned to die.

His perfect beautiful wings were soon
tinted with crimson stain,
His mangled body, wings, and face
completely etched in pain.

Then after three days had passed,
His spirit was released to fly,
so He could soar to His heavenly home
to live with His Father on high.

There are those who revere the legacy
of the beautiful white winged Dove.
And today we trust in Him
to safely enfold us in His wings of love.
