I Cannot Win...

I Cannot Win

I cannot win...despite my sin
God in His mercy blesses
Pours grace the more into my wounds
My sighing soul caresses

I cannot win...for Love has come
All selfish railing ceases
As Christ the more indwells my heart
My joy o'er death increases

I cannot win...I long to lose
I yearn to be defeated
Do what you must my Captain-King
For self must be unseated

I cannot win...already lost
My routing's purest splendour
My foulest sin...forgiveness slays
Was ere a love so tender

I cannot win...my spirit sings
Defeat was ne'er so glorious
Made captive by compassion's sword
I die yet am victorious

About the Poet
My hope is that through the poems I write God will be glorified. I am reliant on the Holy Spirit for anything meaningful to say. I am 71 years of age, married with three of a family...a retired Policeman living in Aberdeen, Scotland. I play the Classical Guitar about grade4/5 level...and also paint after a fashion...although Van Gogh's in no danger!! I learned of this site from a Christian friend,Laurie Jenkins. I do hope that God blesses you through my poetry. Every Blessing in Christ, Raymond
