Sit Still

It was a beautiful morning,
but Sunday just didn’t
seem quite the same.
My usual Saturday night
seeking of what I should say
and what I should do
had not been the same at all.

On this particular
day of worship I wasn’t on the program.
I’d been on the program for many years.
I participated in this part of ministry
with great joy.

So, on this morning,
what should I do?

Very clearly, the Spirit of God
encouraged my heart
to relax, to rest,
to come to the place of worship
and do as I had often told others
—anticipate
meeting with the Savior
in the fellowship of this community.

I sang.
I prayed.
I lifted my hands.
I worshiped.
I was embraced by fellow travelers.
We shared tears of joy.

Our hands applauded
His majesty
and His greatness.
Our voices spoke
offerings of thanksgiving.

 My primary call
on this Sunday morning
was to sit still and listen.
And as I listened
He spoke
banquet tables full
to this hungry soul.

Here in this great gathering of worship I have discovered this praise life.
And I’ll do what I promised right here in front of the God-worshipers.
Down-and-outers sit at God’s table and eat their fill. Everyone on the
hunt for God is here, praising him. “Live it up, from head to toe.Don’t ever quit!”

WORTH REPEATING

It is often said that the Church is a crutch. Of course it’s a crutch.
What makes you think you don’t limp?
—William Sloan Coffin
