MY EYES

Help me put my eyes on you
Where I’ll have no reason to cry
There’s nothing good to look at here
But tears pain and shame
I was going down looking wrongly
Then I saw the light of your presence
Oh the love and peace it brings
Tell me why I should be elsewhere
People die not in control of death
But I choose to live looking this way
Oh God of mercy and compassion
Why didn’t you let me to just go?
I took my eyes away and wandered
Yet you came looking for me
How long will it take you to learn?
You can only behold one at a time
Please put your eyes on the right things
Though it’s our right to choose
We choose wrongly because of a lie
The truth is we know the truth
In God we can find strength to move on
But why we take our eyes off him
Will always be a wonder.
