A Weary Patriot

A Weary Patriot

A patriot am I from my head to my toes,
Yet my heart is heavy and weary,
As Corporate America puts on quite a fireworks show.

No red, white and blue, just red, red, red,
Greed, dishonor, deceit, and arrogance,
Makes one tremble and shake at the path we now tread.

A patriot I am--body, mind, heart and soul,
Yet my heart is heavy and weary,
As those we trust bring our country to new lows.

No red, white and blue, just red, red, red,
Quietly sell your stock and
Take retirement funds away, from Pattie and Fred.

A patriot I want to continue to be,
Yet my heart ever grows more heavy and weary,
As my own retirement fund begins to bleed.

No red, white and blue, just red, red, red,
Love of money is the root of all evil,
And leaves heart-felt patriotism ice cold, as if dead.

A pessimistic patriot, I must not become
Look up my heavy heart and weary spirit
Better days may yet joyfully come.

Lord, help us all to get out of the red, red, red,
Seeking first your kingdom and righteousness,
And our neighbors welfare,
As the Manual for Patriotism has always read.

As a true Christian patriot, the red, white and blue
will continue to fly,
Though my heart grows heavy and weary,
I will stay true, and wait for my mansion
Prepared for me and my family in heaven's bright sky!
