Acedia

  Acedia

Phlegmatic phantom, tetrarch of torpor,

Weaving your sticky web, you wait,

Salivating o'er blinded saints,

You hover near narrow gate.

Souls immersed in matins, charmed,

Cantillating fealty, faith,

Unconscious, they, what lies in wait,

Marching brink of rapture/waste.

Tinctures found in slothful realm

Mollify suffusing tunes,

Hypnotize, replacing runes,

Cover weakened souls, entomb.

Slumber now where once stood faith,

Folded hands, but not in prayer,

None heard climbing Jacob's stair,

All succumbed, Acedia's lair.

Seekers of the path less trod

Beware this sleepy afternoon,

The day is long, with webs, be strong,

A deeper Rest will by your's soon.

Note:  acedia - apathy, boredom.
