Land of Promise, Land of Strife
Viewed Last 24 Hours: 1 time

By George David Denson
Other Poems by George David Denson

When God first created the world,
He gave to Adam and Eve.
A land of promise
In which
They were to live, worship, and serve.

This unwise couple gambled with their life,
They disobeyed their creator God,
Began a life of sin,
Turning the land of promised paradise,
Into a land of never-ending strife.

God judged this strife-filled land
With an overwhelming flood.
For forty days and forty nights it rained,
Until a colorful rainbow was seen,
As an everlasting promise of His love.

The great flood was over,
Time laboriously passed on.
The land of promise was given
To Abraham and His descendants
To be their home-land forever more!

Two thousand years ago, the Prince of Peace and LIfe,
Walked this land of promise,
Offering Himslef as the more excellent way!
His offer was rejected by Jews and Greeks alike,
Commiting history to two millenia of bloody strife.

Those of that first century mocked and scorned
Jesus of Nazareth's every word.
Twenty centuries later, The Jewish Messiah's and
The Gentile Saviour's
Words Of peace and promise still go unheard.

It is the ignorance of His gospel,
The rejection of His person,
That causes the land of promise
To remain
A land of strife.

Faith In His person and message,
Will turn the land of strife,
Back into the land of promise
Just as our creator God,
Had originally designed.
