The Poet Laureate Of The Psalms

By George David Denson

Out of the depths of his heart, The Poet Laureate
Of The Psalms fervently prayed.
For the way of blessing and peace, his soul longed for
Just as the sun awaits the day.
The Lord was his Shepherd, a marvelous truth
He knew so well.
Yet, for the people of his kingdom,
This most cherished truth often did not prevail.
I will AWAKEN THE DAWN the Psalmist David shared,
His infinite love and mercy, my songs joyfully declare!
With The Lord's Spirit upon me as Israel's reigning King,
I will declare His forgiving grace, with words
that even the smallest bird can sing.
A King, A Poet Laureate, most of us will never be,
Yet, through our meager words, His glory is often seen.
A King and a poet was David's God-given call,
What a legacy of words! He has left to us all.
